Go For The Gold In Miami

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

So you are a “want-to-be” Olympic Swimmer, or maybe just want to meet an Olympic Swimmer, huh? Well now here’s your chance to have a little of both… All you need to do is go down to Miami, Florida on April 17th and sign-up for The Nike Swim Miami 2010. This event will have some Olympic Gold Medalists in attendance along with a lot of just fantastic non-Olympic open water swimmers. You’ll be able to go up against swimmers in both a 5K and 10K distance. So you say that you are not a USA Swimming or US Master’s Swimming member, no problem! The event is open to all people.

Now that you get to swim with and against Gold Medal Swimmers, how can this event get any better? It is even better because the proceeds benefit the H2O’s Foundation. This foundation teaches thousands of South Florida kids in urban communities how to swim and also provides them career opportunities in aquatics. Provides the kids with self-confidence and helps reduce their chance of drowning, cool!

I’m All That

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Do you think You’re All That? Then participate in All 4 events in the Skaneateles Labor Day Race Weekend and you get your own bragging rights; the SkinnyMan triathlon, Escape from the Judge open water swim, Coon Hill Grind time trail, and the Skaneateles Road Race run. It’s all part the of the Central New York 5th Annual Labor Day weekend event. Don’t think the kids are being left out of this weekend, they have their own half mile race, Splash Dash.

This event is being put on by Skaneateles Splash! and proceeds support the aquatic activities and safety programs in the community. So come out and Swim, Cycle, and Run on September 5th and 6th, whatever your preference is.

Back to Alcatraz

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Well, I don’t know if it is the thrill of swimming in cold water, fighting strong currents, being chased by sharks, or the mystique of the “rock” that draws people to Alcatraz, but what ever it is, it keeps many of them coming back.

On August 29th, 350 experienced open water swimmers will share the water with 7 “die-hards” that have swam around the Alcatraz rock more than 100 times in the Alcatraz With The Centurions open water swim. This swim will benefit the Local Breast Cancer agencies and the U.S. National Parks Conservancy.

Around the Rock

Monday, July 13th, 2009

The Rock is Alcatraz, of course, and the swim, though only 3.25 miles to complete is only for the elite swimmers of the world. With strong currents and changing tides, this swim event will be a challenge even for the most experienced of open water swimmers.

Water World Swim is the host of the 4th annual Swim Around the Rock on July 18th. It was a great training for the Beijing Olympics, and will most likely be a training event for the next Olympics in London.

With world class swimmers, and notoriously challenging waters, only the best will swim. This event is one of a kind.

Memorial Swim in Coeur d’Alene

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Stroke…kick..splash!

Come out to beautiful Lake Coeur d’Alene for a great cause and a one mile open water swim. On July 12th the Steve Omi Memorial Open Water Swim gets started at 8:30 am.

Steve Omi, the inspiration for this event, passed on from cancer in 1994. This event raises money for a scholarship for local graduating seniors planning to swim at the collegiate level. There have been 16 recipients of this scholarship in the 13 years since this event began.

Temps are likely to be in the 80’s, the water closer to 65 perfect for a day at the lake. So come out and cheer, come out and volunteer or, come out and swim.
