Ok, so I never had the honor of being a member US Marine Corps, but I have heard of Parris Island. From what I have heard, Parris Island is, what’s the word I’m thinking of, “challenging”. It is where the men and women of the US Marine Corps train to become elite soldiers. So with that said, now image having a triathlon in the same location that our hero’s in the Marine Corps train. How cool is that!!! Well the Parris Island Triathlon on March 20th in Parris Island, South Carolina will give you this opportunity! You get to do a 500 meter swim in the Military Combat Training Pool (cool) and perform your 10 mile bike ride and 5K run on a course that is mostly closed to traffic. Awesome! Only one request, if you see soldiers in a platoon formation, please stop and let them go by. If you do not, you will be asked to leave the base. Enjoy!

The Winter Challenge Offroad Triathlon on February 20th in Springfield, South Carolina gives the non-swimmer a chance to experience a triathlon. This triathlon combines a 7 mile trail run, a 6 mile kayak, and a 10 mile Mtn bike ride for an exciting off road experience. So give this triathlon a try. You’ll enjoy the singletracks and the beautiful lake views.
Throw the Powder Hound a Bone
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010Now, I luv to Run, MTN Bike, and X-country ski, but I never thought about doing all three in one race! Good thing I only do races, not create them! The smart people of Butte, Montana have created a great race called The Powder Hound Winter Triathlon which will take place on January 31st. This race contains a 5K Run, 10K Mtn Bike, and 5K X-Country ski that will take place on beautifully groomed X-Country ski trails in the gorgeous state of Montana. Yup that’s right, these guys and gals will have you slipping and sliding in the snow while wearing your running shoes and riding your two-wheeled bikes. Sounds like a lot of fun, but not sure my Mtn Bike and I can handle the brisk temperatures. I know, I know, call me a wimp…
Good luck to all of you who give this unique race a try.
2009 Ford Ironman Arizona
Friday, November 6th, 2009Well the 2009 Triathlon Championship in Hawaii has been over for a few weeks, but that doesn’t mean that there is not a lot of good triathlon racing left this year.
The 2009 Ford Ironman Arizona on November 22nd is proof of that. This is one of the premier races of the triathlon season and promises to be another exciting race to watch, or if you are lucky enough to be registered, to race in. This race starts and finishes at the Tempe Town Lake in the great city of Tempe, Arizona. The racers begin by taking a 2.4 mile “dip” in the Tempe Town Lake. Once this portion is complete, the racers jump on their two-wheel-aerodynamic-missiles and ride 112 miles through the beautiful Tempe / Phoenix streets. Now that the “easy” part is over, the racers complete the race by putting on their running shoes and speed through the scenic Tempe streets for 26.2 miles.
Oh, did I forget to mention that; “the race is in Arizona” so there will NOT be any snow or cold weather to deal with, only bright / beautiful sunshine!! So come on out and give these great racers a little support and soak-up a little sunshine in process. Enjoy!

The King of Triathlons
Monday, September 21st, 2009So if you do triathlons, I’m sure that you have heard about the Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. Tens of thousands of Ironmen and women around the world lay in bed every night dreaming of the day they are able to compete in this race! The problem, however, is that even though many of us dream about this race only a “special” few ever get the opportunity to participate. The reason many of us never get the chance to participate in this race isn’t because of money or other issues… The reason is because you either need to be very lucky (to obtain a lottery selection) or incredibly talented to actually qualify for the privilege to participate.
So what makes the Kona Ironman so special? Well, first of all, it is the World Championships (duh!). But that aside, there are a number of reasons why people dream about this race… It could be because you are one of only about 1,800 lucky athletes that are able to compete with some of the best triathletes in the world, it could be the ocean calling you to do the 2.4 mile swim, it could be the windy and rough lava covered terrain of the running and cycling course, or it could be some personal reason that only the athlete knows about.
Good luck to all of you lucky competitors in this year’s Ford Ironman World Championships! I am in awe of your accomplishments and envious of your opportunity to participate. Hopefully I will be able to join you in Kona one day!
